On Wednesday night (Oct. 22) we had the pleasure of hosting our annual Volunteer Celebration at Central Library. We’re incredibly lucky – we have more than 400 volunteers, and in 2013 they donated more than 7,500 hours of their time.
This is a really diverse group of people. We’ve got a growing number of teens and young adults, people who are working and raising families, and older adults who have so much to offer their community in terms of skills and experience.
They deliver books and movies to people who aren’t able to easily leave their homes. They work one-on-one with beginning readers. They tutor French immersion students, and provide career coaching. They keep our shelves organized and our gardens weeded. They work on the Youth Advisory Council, drawing younger people to the library. And they do it all with thoughtfulness and good cheer.
Library CEO Sonia Lewis and Volunteer Services Co-ordinator Sherry Erb recognized some of our volunteers for years of service.
