Every year, staff members at Kitchener Public Library look back fondly on a year of reading and choose our favourite books. We’re not particular about it – any book published in any year and any format can land on our “Best of” list: fiction and non-fiction, adult, children’s and young adult, graphic novels, e-books, classics from decades ago.
This year, we asked YOU to contribute, and we’re thrilled with the response. Sixty-five people responded, and identified more than 300 books they loved reading in 2014.
“When we first started planning What You Read 2014, we weren’t sure what books would be selected by our community. We thought that we may see bestsellers and books that were recently turned into movies – in other words, the books you see talked about in newspapers and on TV – and we did, but we also heard about books in multiple languages, in many formats, and for every age group,” says librarian Laura P.
“Some of the books selected aren’t currently on the library’s shelves (we’re working on it!), some came out decades upon decades ago, and some are new releases, but all struck a chord with someone in our community. Hopefully this list will inspire our customers to take a book recommendation from a neighbor – you just might find a new favorite read for 2015.”
