Emily was an inexperienced but enthusiastic photographer when she signed up for a teen photography workshop at Central Library with Jason Panda, a local artist and photographer.
But three of Emily’s photos from that day were chosen for Imagine a Show – which led to them being exhibited at THEMUSEUM, and published in the Imagine a Show book. One of those is a real showstopper: a photo of Flux, the spectacular public art installation at Central Library. (seen above)
But perhaps even more exciting for Emily – Jason invited her and a few other teens along with him to attend an International Women’s Day lunch with special guest Laureen Harper, wife of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Emily got to meet Mrs. Harper and have her picture taken, in front of her beautiful photo.
There couldn’t be better themes for this year’s Imagine a Show teen photography contest. “Working Together.” “Inspiring Change.” Those are things our customers do every day at Kitchener Public Library.
And “Let There Be Light”? We try to give every customer the tools to shed light on any topic, to learn new skills, or to literally sit in the light – our sunny, comfortable spaces.
Want to hone your photography skills before deciding which pics to submit? Jason is offering more free workshops for kids in Grades 5 and up at Central Library. The next one is on May 16, and you can register here.
Save the date for these summer workshops. No experience necessary.
