A little over a year ago, we were working with the Levene family, our contributors, and our sponsors to create the 2016 Leejay Levene fundraising calendar.
So many of you supported us at the launch party in May, and we’ve now spent about 8 months selling Leejay’s Guide to the Library at our library locations and through local retailers.
We’re wrapping up sales now, and we have a long list of people that we want to thank, starting with the Levene family. Shirley, Ron, Elli, and Casey, your strength and determination to make sure Leejay, through his art, continues to have a positive impact on this community is an inspiration to all of us.
There is a moment in every dawn when light floats, there is the possibility of magic. Creation holds its breath. ~ from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Thank you for inviting us to be the beneficiaries of the 2016 Leejay Levene calendar. We’ll be using the funds to help create a Teen Tech Living Room at Central Library – a place where teens can use the latest technology to collaborate on digital projects. And Leejay’s memory continues in the Leejay Levene Study Room in the teen area – along with his art work. Thank you so much.
We also want to thank each of our sponsors for their financial support: Berkeley Garage Doors & Repairs, The Walper Hotel, BJ Photo, Intent, Queen Street Yoga, Staebler Insurance, the Waterloo Region Museum, Matter of Taste Coffee Bar, Mother’s Pizza, Little Mushroom Catering, THEMUSEUM, Waterloo Regional Police, Element Hair, Three Kretans,Superior Memorials, Dr. Martin Richmond (optometrist), and M & T Printing Group.
And of course we want to thank each of our contributors, who wrote kind and thoughtful quotes for the calendar: Governor General David Johnston, Mayor Berry Vrbanovic, CBC’s Heather Hiscox, Dr. Marla Shapiro, authors Lawrence Hill, Charlotte Gray, Emma Donoghue, Tasneem Jamal, Allan Mallory, and Veronica Ross, Canada’s favourite gardener Mark Cullen, Top Chef runner-up Terry Salmond, artist Lin Souliere, TV producer David Kerr, Professor Paul Socken, and Leejay’s former English teacher, Steve Leslie.
We also want to thank the OHL Kitchener Rangers for donating an autographed hockey stick, and the anonymous donor who supplied a Chromebook, as raffle prizes for people who had purchased calendars.
Be sure to watch for and support the 2017 Leejay Levene calendar, with proceeds going to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
